Ray Sr. said he had one golf lesson his entire life. The other day, because of a recent medical issue, he could only work on his putting.

“I learned something today, about holding game private my putter straight up. That’s a good thing,” he said.

Sayers, who like Ray Sr. served in Vietnam, belongs to a generation of veterans often treated harshly returning home from an unpopular war. He said he welcomes the acknowledgement being given to them at Renaissance.
